requirments before getting betta (1 week): stem plants, snails, cycled tank
when getting betta (after fulfilling req): acclimation with temperature and water dropping, add tannins (waterlog them before adding). 20-30% water change with conditioned water. trim plants
sand → layer of bacteria break down organic waste, no build up of gases → no leeching/ capping of soil → easy clean up
rocks/ decor → beneficial bacteria to latch on → boil before adding
sponge filter → benificial bacteria surface → low impact filteration
water column feeder plants (stem plants/ floaters) → dont need soil/ root tabs → liquid ferts/ organic waste in water
snails (nerite) → aerate sand → eat dead plant and algae → minimal waste → kick off nitrogen cycle (before fish)
air lump/ filter → for dispersion of nutrients → stagnant water causes nutrient density in places, promote algae and poor oxygen circulation. causes decay and less dispersion of nutrients. → circulate o2 for fish
